NERC and the NHM partnered in 2018 to create a 'Lates' event to celebrate the impact that environmental science has on all of our lives.

Here at NERC we have had a fantastic 2018. Here are a few highlights...

We became part of UK Research & Innovation - external link - a new body which works in partnership with universities, research organisations, businesses, charities and government to create the best possible environment for research and innovation to flourish.

We funded air quality research supersites in three major cities and doubled the storage of the JASMIN4 supercomputer.

Our Autosub Long Range Boaty McBoatface completed its first under-ice Antarctic mission and we joined forces with the US in a £20 million collaboration to understand Antarctic glacial collapse.

Over 100,000 people came to our family show Operation Earth at venues across the UK and we even took it to Downing Street as part of Green Great Britain Week.

NERC research on 1·5°C global warming informed an international special report on climate change and another report showed that UK environmental science is the best in the world.

We beat our target for apprentices, planned £100 million for postgraduate training and launched our new animation about our inspiring scientists.

We launched the hull of our new polar ship the RRS Sir David Attenborough and our new £22 million research programme will investigate the impacts of climate change and human activities on the Atlantic Ocean, from the surface to the deep seabed.

And that's not even all of it!

We hope you've had an amazing 2018 too, and we look forward to sharing another year of fantastic environmental science with you in 2019.
