27/06/2018 - The OECD has appointed two new Deputy Secretaries-General - Ludger Schuknecht, currently Chief Economist and G20 Deputy at the German Federal Ministry of Finance, and Ulrik Vestergaard Knudsen, Permanent Secretary of State of Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As Deputy Secretaries-General, Mr Schuknecht and Mr Vestergaard Knudsen will support OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría in promoting the Organisation’s analysis and policy advice to address the world’s major economic, social and environmental challenges.

Before heading the economics and international economy directorate general at Germany’s Federal Finance Ministry, Mr Schuknecht worked as a Senior Adviser at the European Central Bank. Previous assignments included the World Trade Organisation and the International Monetary Fund.

Mr Vestergaard Knudsen, a former Danish Ambassador to the OECD and to UNESCO, was Permanent Under-Secretary of State in Denmark’s Prime Minister’s office between 2010 and 2013 and State Secretary for Strategic Development from 2009 to 2010. In 2013 he was Group Director for International Policy for the Vodafone Group. He has twice been Chair of the OECD Global Strategy Group, the Organisation’s high level forum on global and strategic issues, most recently from 2014 to 2017.

Mr Schuknecht and Mr Vestergaard Knudsen will join Deputy Secretary-General Masamichi Kono, appointed in August 2017.
