AMMA is encouraging members to provide feedback into our submission to the National Inquiry into Sexual Harassment in Australian Workplaces via this short online survey.
The Sex Discrimination Commissioner (SDC) recently extended the deadline for making submissions to the Inquiry to 28 February 2019.
Last year AMMA signalled its support for the “world first” inquiry into sexual harassment in Australian workplaces when it was announced by the Australian Human Rights Commission.
The Commission has said it “wants to hear from” as many individuals and organisations as possible on their views, experiences and suggestions for change.
AMMA is calling on members to share their views on the issue via a short survey set to guide the organisation’s submission.
The focus of the Inquiry is on:
- the nature and prevalence of sexual harassment in Australian workplaces
- the drivers of this harassment, and
- measures to address sexual harassment in Australian workplaces.
AMMA’s submission will respond to the following terms of reference:
- The current legal framework with respect to sexual harassment;
- Existing measures and good practice being undertaken by employers in preventing and responding to workplace sexual harassment, both domestically and internationally the impacts on individuals and business of sexual harassment, such as mental health, and the economic impacts such as workers compensation claims, employee turnover and absenteeism; and
- Recommendations to address sexual harassment in Australian workplaces.

The SDC has also published a list of organisations that have issued a limited waiver of confidentiality obligations in Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) or other agreements to allow individuals to make a submission to the national inquiry.
