正文(英文)	Do you know that if we do not act now, Baobab Alley could disappear in the coming decades? The Menabe Antimena protected area, one of the largest blocks of dry forest in Madagascar, lost 7% of its total area in 2017 alone! A situation confirmed by studies in 2014, which highlighted that Menabe Antimena undergoes frantic and uncontrollable deforestation since 2010. Menabe Antimena is home to special reserves, the UNESCO World Heritage Baobab Alley, and Ramsar wetlands, including lakes and mangroves. It's an entire ecosystem. But the region has experienced a massive migration for several years, increasing pressures on the protected area. Forests are burned and cleared for intensive and illegal cropping of maize and groundnuts. Fanamby, Durell, Madagascar National Parks, WWF and other environmental organizations mobilize authorities and public opinion. They are working with civil society at the national level to warn about this situation with the "Save Menabe Antimena" campaign launched in 2018. The solutions put forward are: to better publicize and apply the legislation that governs the protected area. Also, local populations must be sensitized and informed about possible sanctions. Finally, the application of the law must be effective with the support of the court of Morondava. "About 4% of Menabe Antimena disappears every year. With communities, local authorities and our environmental partners, we made commitments. Legislation regarding the governance of our resources must be known, understood and applied, "said Johanita Ndahimananjara, Minister of Environment, Ecology and Forests, who visited the protected area this March.
