| 正文(英文) | Following WWF-Thailand’s recent major partnership initiative towards sustainable farming practices in Chiang Mai, the organization has signed yet another four-way Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 20th, 2018, between Nan Organic Agricultural Network (NON), Central Group and Tops Supermarket, with the express purpose of strengthening collaboration on environmental conservation and protection of headwater streams through the promotion of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in Nan, Thailand.
The three-year Plan of Action will establish a framework towards transformational agriculture shift from monoculture practices on deforested areas to an integrated farming system as a means to minimize impact on the environment, society and economy. The MoU aims to work towards a deforested-free food supply chain with specific focus on food security enhancement, global climate change, food production and processing, including establishment of cooperative sustainable market chains of ‘local foods’ to support farmers’ sales and other livelihood opportunities.
The MoU will enable all four organizations to improve regulatory enforcements of sustainable farming through empowering communities for a local, collective action that would ensure broad participation of small-scale farmers and communities as key maintenance group of agricultural biodiversity. In addition to integrating principles of environmental sustainability, the organizations also aim to consolidate and support local and regional food business enterprises through participatory guarantee systems (PGS) as an incentivize innovation that can contribute towards the development of a sustainable food system.
Where all four organizations are in dire need of climate-friendly technologies that will enable them to raise political momentum on the climate policy landscape, the MoU will also set up a traceability monitoring system, alongside Ricult, WWF-Thailand’s agritech startup partner, allowing for technological innovative learning through direct civil society participation and improved understanding of local markets and farmers’ needs.
The WWF-Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) project is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building, and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) supports this initiative on the basis of a decision adopted by the German Bundestag.
