WBCSD’s Sustainable Urban Mobility project, SiMPlify, has won a coveted award as part of the 2019 State-of-the-Art Partnerships, recently announced in Washington DC by P4G, the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals initiative. SiMPlify won the category of SDG11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, for the work it has done in the City of Feira de Santana, Brazil.

SiMPlify features a methodology that helps cities develop inclusive sustainable urban mobility plans. It is focused on 19 indicators and using them helps develop a process to engage all stakeholders - including citizens and the private sector - in effective city management and planning. Feira de Santana, a fast-growing city of 600,000 in Brazil’s northern region of Bahia, applied SiMPlify in collaboration with WBCSD and tire manufacturer Pirelli to develop and help implement a USD$26 million transformative sustainable urban mobility plan. You can watch a video on the project here.

P4G, the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 Initiative, announced the award winners chosen in a global competition to recognize the world’s most innovative and successful public-private partnerships driving green growth and climate action.

P4G selected a winner for each of five UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 2, food and agriculture; SDG 6, clean water and sanitation; SDG 7, clean energy, SDG 11, sustainable cities; and SDG 12 responsible production and consumption (circular economy). Each of these partnerships will compete for the P4G Partnership of the Year Award to be presented at a P4G Awards Luncheon being held on September 23 in New York, on the sidelines of the UN Climate Action Summit.

P4G Global Director, Ian de Cruz commented, “These partnerships are pioneers in showing the world that public-private collaboration is at the heart of accelerating the most innovative models for change for a more sustainable and inclusive future. This powerful recognition of their proven impact reflects P4G’s commitment to learn from the best public-private partnerships delivering tangible results. We look forward to working with these partnerships and connecting them to P4G’s transformative network of business, government and civil society leaders to build upon their impressive work.”

A panel of expert judges selected the winners based on the five main criteria: eligibility, impact, innovation, scale and implementation viability. To qualify, a partnership must include at least one organization each from the private, public and civil society sectors and have achieved measurable impact in its target SDG sector.
