With the help of members in the resources and energy industry, AMMA continues to inspire schoolkids around the nation with future opportunities in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and maths).

Corinda State Primary School in Brisbane’s south-west was the latest school to host AMMA’s Bright Future STEM Program, featuring an engaging mix of industry role model talks and hands-on interactive activities.

Aimed at 9-11 year old children, the program is being rolled-out nationally to raise awareness of STEM fields and help build the future pipeline of home-grown skills amongst young Australians.

At Corinda State Primary School on 26 June, role models from Anglo American, New Hope Group and Sodexo spoke to students about the wide variety of careers in the resources and energy industry, what it’s like to work in the industry and future STEM opportunities as its continues to evolve and change.

Next door in the activities hall, students engaged with a number of STEM-based activities ranging from remote-controlled mining operations and virtual reality headsets, to tasks simulating engineering and minesite rehabilitation.

The Corinda event was another huge success, following the first of the 2019 Bright Future STEM events at Melbourne’s Burwood Heights Primary School a week prior, involving Newcrest Mining, MMG and ExxonMobil Australia (see related story).

AMMA’s Bright Future STEM program will visit a dozen schools across Queensland, Western Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania in 2019.
