The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) has partnered with energy retailer EnergyAustralia to achieve carbon neutral precinct certification for the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the month of September.

September is one of the busiest and therefore emissions intensive times of the year for the MCG, particularly with the crowds drawn by the AFL Finals Series. To achieve carbon neutral precinct certification against the National Carbon Offset Standard the MCC and EnergyAustralia have calculated all the estimated emissions associated with running the MCG during September and will purchase carbon offset units to counteract the MCG’s emissions.

The MCC has managed the MCG since 1853 and also manages Yarra Park, 60 acres of multi-use parkland that surrounds the stadium. This certification includes both the MCG and Yarra Park.
