The IPCC Chair, Hoesung Lee  and one of the Working Group II Co-Chairs, Debra Roberts, have been named among the 100 most influential people in climate policy for 2019 by Apolitical – a peer to peer learning platform for governments.  The inaugural annual list seeks to celebrate politicians, civil servants, academics and activists from all over the world.

“Apolitical has recognized the work of all involved in the work of the IPCC including scientists and governments representatives. As climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time, it is an honour to be part of those making a contribution to address this challenge”  said Hoesung Lee, in response to the news.

Debra Roberts, who is based at eThekwini Municipality in South Africa said, “there is no solution to the global climate crisis without climate resilient and low carbon cities. The local government-climate change science nexus is key to unlocking this global opportunity – informing change in the world that improves people’s lives; and identifying changes in people’s lives that protect the world”.

The 100 Most Influential People in Climate Policy list was curated from nominations from hundreds of public servants as well as experts at UNDP, Harvard, Oxford, Bloomberg Philanthropies, The Climate Action Network and more.

The platform is used by public servants and policymakers in more than 160 countries to connect with each other and to find original and curated content about what’s working in policymaking around the world, including on topics such as digital government and government innovation.
