13/02/2020 - Climate risks for finance were at the centre of a joint workshop at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) with experts from the German Bundesbank. Both the physical impacts of global warming, for instance weather extremes, and the economical impacts of transitioning to net zero CO2 emissions have huge implications. The experts and scientists discussed potential future collaborations, namely on data exchange and computer simulation modelling.

Ottmar Edenhofer, Director of PIK and climate economist, gave an opening speech at the workshop. Two PIK FutureLabs jointly led by researchers from Potsdam and from the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) are involved in the relevant scientific efforts: One ist the FutureLab on "Public Economics and Climate Finance" and the other is the FutureLab on "Networks of Interacting Agents". Also involved are PIK's Working Group "Data-based analysis of climate decisions" and the "Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project".
