President Trump presented Republican senators with several potential actions Congress could take as lawmakers look to avert the economic impacts of the worldwide coronavirus outbreak—but he did not offer a specific economic stimulus package during their lunch meeting on Tuesday, as Politico’s Heather Caygle, Andrew Desiderio, and John Bresnahan report.

The WSJ’s Joe Wallace, Akane Otani, and Xie Yu report that stocks rose in frenetic trading Tuesday after a stunning selloff at the start of the week.

Meanwhile, as the Journal’s Jennifer Calfas, Chong Koh Ping, and Giovanni Legorano report, New York and Europe have stepped up containment efforts.

Putin Power

Russia’s parliament offered a path Tuesday for President Vladi­mir Putin to stay in power for an additional 12 years after his term expires in 2024, approving an amendment that would reset his presidential terms, as the Washington Post’s Isabelle Khurshudyan reports.

Turkey Defies EU Pressure to Shut Border

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday he would not stop migrants trying to cross Turkey’s border into Greece despite EU pressure to do so, but he also announced a summit next week in Istanbul with European leaders to seek a solution to the crisis, as Reuters reports.
