The Minister for the Environment is expanding the membership of the Threatened Species Scientific Committee (TSSC). The Committee plays a critical role in the Australian Government’s protection of native species and ecological communities by providing independent scientific advice to the Minister for the Environment on the listing, conservation and recovery of threatened species and ecological communities, and the listing and abatement of key threatening processes.

Expressions of interest are sought from experienced scientists seeking to contribute to this high-impact work through membership of the Committee.

Multiple positions will be filled.

Successful applicants will be highly collaborative and have significant standing in a relevant field of expertise. Expertise is sought in the ecology, conservation and management of terrestrial, freshwater and marine species and ecological communities; conservation genetics; fire ecology; Indigenous management of country; and environmental threats and their management.

Members require strong analytical and critical thinking skills and capacity to translate highly technical matters into written advice to inform the Minister and a range of stakeholders and landholders. Experience working with a range of land, water and sea managers, landholders and stakeholders, and in environmental restoration and in ex-situ conservation will be highly desirable.
