英文摘要

1. Outline

This is an open letter from Baroness Brown, Chair of the Adaptation Committee of the Committee on Climate Change to all reporting organisations covered by the Adaptation Reporting Power (ARP). The ARP was created as part of the Climate Change Act 2008. It allows the Secretary of State to ask key organisations to report on the steps they are taking to prepare for climate change.

  • The full list of Reporting Organisations can be found here.
  • Defra is leading the third round of Adaptation Reporting. Defra’s ARP strategy for the third round, as well as the second National Adaptation Programme, can be found here.

2. Key recommendations

The Committee’s letter states that:

  • The CCC’s review of the second round of Adaptation Reporting Power (ARP) Reports (https://www.theccc.org.uk/publication/adaptation-reporting-power-second-round-review/) found that the ARP increases the transparency and understanding of how individual organisations are tackling the changing climate and helps the nation’s preparedness for climate change impacts.
  • COVID-19 has emphasised the importance of evidence-led preparations for key current and future risks facing the country.
  • Adaptation Reports are a critical mechanism for gathering and presenting evidence to help understand climate change risks to the UK, and the effectiveness of actions that have been taken, or are planned, to manage these risks.
  • The Committee hopes that Reporting Organisations will continue to participate in the third round of reporting, and looks forward to reading organisations’ ARP reports in due course.
