英文摘要 | The objective of the Global Assessments Synthesis Report is to inform decision making at major global inter-governmental meetings in the coming year and beyond (e.g. the United Nations General Assembly (UN GA), The UN Nature Summit, the Convention on Biological Diversity’s (CBD) 15th Conference of the Parties (COP), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) COP 26, the fifth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5)) and to underpin preparations for Stockholm+50 commemorations in 2022 (See Appendices I and V for a timeline of the report process and an overview of the broader timeline). The main elements of the report cover the increasing human wealth, inequality and pressure on Earth’s systems leading to the inability to meet recent international agreements, but also the actions required to change this course to instead achieve a sustainable future. The report serves to translate the current state of scientific knowledge into crisp, clear and digestible facts-based messages that the world can relate to and follow up on. The report first provides an Earth diagnosis of current and projected human-induced environmental change, by putting facts and interlinkages in perspective, including by using smart infographics. In building on this diagnosis, the report identifies the shifts needed to close gaps between current actions and those needed to achieve sustainable development. The analysis is anchored in current economic, social and ecological reality and framed by economics and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Report Team UNEP has convened an elite team of Authors that is led by Ivar Baste of the Norwegian Environment Agency and includes lead experts who were involved in major Global Environmental Assessments such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Intergovernmental Panel on Biological Diversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), the Global Environmental Outlook (GEO), the Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR), the International Resources Panel (IRP), the Global Chemicals Outlook (GCO), the Global Resources Outlook (GRO), the Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO), the Global Land Outlook (GLO), the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA), and the World Energy Outlook (WEO) (see Appendix II for the full list of authors). The authors are supported by a team of Research Fellows to assist with finding material across the various assessments and on specific topics (see Appendix III for the list of Research Fellows). The Scientific Advisory Group (SAG), led by Sir Robert Watson, includes experts from the European Environment Agency (EEA), University College London (UCL), the Netherland’s Environment Agency (PBL), Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the International Energy Agency (IEA) (See Appendix IIII for a full list of the SAG). The report team also includes a science communications writer, Mr. Stephen Graham and Illustrators, Joseph Klingenberg and Sebastian Obermeyer to enhance to accessibility of the report and speak to all audiences. |
