The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of
Tenure Track Assistant Professor in » Soil Biophysics and Environmental Systems «
to begin as soon as possible. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor).
Scientific environment
The professorship belongs to the Department Life Science Systems within the TUM School of Life Sciences. A close collaboration with the World Agricultural Systems Center - Hans Eisenmann-Forum für Agrarwissenschaften is planned.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of Soil Biophysics and Environmental Systems with a focus on the functionality of soil as a complex porous medium and habitat for plant roots and soil organisms using experimental and model-based methods. The professorship is supposed to aim at understanding, quantifying and predicting key physical processes in soils with respect to e.g. management, climate or land use change. The goal is to pursue a system-oriented research program linking physical to biogeochemical processes in agricultural, forest or urban systems. The teaching load includes courses in the university‘s bachelor and master programs
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international level. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad and full commitment to do interdisciplinary research is expected.
