The European Geosciences Union (EGU) is the leading organisation for Earth, planetary, and space science research in Europe. With our partner societies worldwide, we foster fundamental geoscience research, alongside applied research that addresses key societal and environmental challenges. To fulfill EGU’s vision of realising a sustainable and just future for humanity and for the planet, we publish 19 open-access scientific journals and organise meetings and numerous education and outreach activities. The EGU General Assembly is Europe’s largest and most prominent European geosciences event, bringing together more than 16,000 scientists from all over the world.
EGU is seeking a Committee Programmes Coordinator to work as part of our Communications and Policy Team to organise and further develop mentoring, training, and career-growth opportunities for EGU’s members and the global geoscience community. The position holder will be responsible for working with scientists from diverse backgrounds, including all career stages, to design, implement, and evaluate the success of professional and personal development activities. The Committee Programmes Coordinator will also work under the direction of the Executive Secretary to support ongoing Union initiatives, including the EGU awards and medals programme. The position will be based at the EGU Executive Office in Munich, Germany.
Main tasks
- Serve as the main point of contact in the EGU Office for Early Career Scientists
- Manage, further develop, and evaluate EGU mentoring, training, and networking activities, including those primarily designed for Early Career Scientists
- Help coordinate and deliver in-person and virtual events, including EGU webinars
- Help coordinate EGU’s education initiatives, including the Geosciences Information for Teachers (GIFT) and other workshops, higher-education teaching grants, and Planet Press, a geoscientific news source for children
- Support the activities of EGU’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group
- Assist with the implementation and promotion of the Topical Events activities
Requirements
- Academic degree (e.g., BA, BSc, MA, MSc, PhD), preferably in the Earth, planetary, or space sciences or a related field, or in science education or communication
- Expert command of English
- Experience designing and coordinating online educational, training, and/or mentoring programmes
- Good team player with excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills
- Ability to communicate with a range of people using both in-person and digital mediums
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and to think creatively
- Experience working with Early Career Scientist networks would be an advantage

Salary and starting date This position, to start in late 2020, will be subject to a 6-month probation period. We offer a competitive salary and indicative remuneration will be in the range of €48,000 – €52,000 subject to expertise and experience.
