Dear Critical Zone community,
Please consider submitting an abstract to Geological Society of America (GSA) Connects session T58: Water Storage and Transit in Bedrock and Implications for Critical Zone Evolution, Stream Chemistry, Climate, and Ecosystems.

Bedrock weathering – both physical and chemical - creates a porous and permeable region for water exchange with the atmosphere, aquifers and streams. Recent studies are highlighting the ways in which weathered bedrock properties influence and are influenced by water. The previously hidden signatures of weathering depth, weathering magnitude and pore connectivity are increasingly revealed as new tools and increasingly realistic models allow us to quantify how plants access water and solutes and nutrients are exported from watersheds. In this session, we welcome field, laboratory, and theoretical studies seeking to understand and quantify processes linking bedrock weathering and water in the Critical Zone across a broad range of disciplines including geophysics, geochemistry, ecohydrology, hillslope and watershed hydrology, and biogeochemistry.

The meeting will be held October 10-13, 2021 in Portland, Oregon. A remote presentation format is possible for presenters unable to travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
