Geneva, 8 JuneComfortDelGro Corporation, one of the world’s largest land transport companies with a total fleet size of about 35,000 buses, taxis and rental vehicles, has joined the Mobility Decarbonization project of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

The Group, which was formed in 2003 through a merger of Singapore-based companies Comfort Group and DelGro Corporation, has global operations spanning seven countries – Singapore, Australia, the United Kingdom (UK), New Zealand, China, Ireland and Malaysia.

In 2021, the Group became the first mobility operator in Asia to commit to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and in February 2022, it submitted its decarbonization plans for SBTi’s validation. The company has also set the goal of at least halving its greenhouse gas emissions by 2032. To achieve this, ComfortDelGro will switch to 100% cleaner energy fleets, improve operating efficiencies and transition to clean and renewable energy.

In recognition of its sustainability efforts, ComfortDelGro has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Asia Pacific (DJSI Asia Pacific) since 2019 for three years in a row. It is one of four Singapore companies and the only Singaporean transport company to be included in the regional index.

Mr. Yang Ban Seng, MD/Group CEO of ComfortDelGro, said, “With maturing electric vehicle (EV) technologies, ComfortDelGro is ready to support the decarbonization ambitions of not just Singapore but also in other countries around the world. Since 2016, we have been acquiring EVs and integrating them into our vehicle fleets, be it taxis, buses, or learner driver training vehicles. By the third quarter of this year, ComfortDelGro will be operating the largest private electric bus fleet in Singapore. We are also installing more than 600 EV charging points islandwide in Singapore.

“Beyond electrification, we have also introduced hydrogen buses into our Australian and UK bus fleets. Some of our office buildings and depots are also installing solar power systems on their rooftops so that we can significantly reduce energy consumption,” he added.

“We are pleased to welcome ComfortDelGro as our newest project member. Their leading role in the land transport sector and their commitment to creating long-term shared value through sustainable growth make them an ideal partner for WBCSD to tackle the triple threat of climate change, nature in crisis and mounting inequalities,” said Thomas Deloison, Director, Mobility, WBCSD. “As a global operator of one of the largest electric vehicle fleets, ComfortDelGro will be an important contributor to WBCSD’s Mobility Decarbonization project. We look forward to collaborating with them to develop insights on market readiness and share best practices and recommendations to support and accelerate the uptake of electric fleets worldwide.”
