Members of the CGP are chosen with a view to mobilizing best thinking and best practice worldwide to work together in overcoming problems we all share.

IIASA will join leading institutions such as the Oxford Martin School, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, and the New Economic School with the common aim of identifying and addressing transnational problems to provide policy advice to the G20 on a long-term basis.

“We are delighted that IIASA has been accepted to be a member of the Council of Global Problem-Solving. IIASA has a track record of delivering global, regional, and national perspectives and impact through conducting excellent, independent, interdisciplinary research into real-world problems. We look forward to a successful strategic partnership with fellow council members.” says IIASA Deputy Director General/Deputy CEO Professor Dr. Nebojsa Nakicenovic.

Much of the institute’s current research plan (2016-2020) focuses on finding pathways for global transformations that tackle the multiple challenges of rapid globalization, radical shifts in economic and political power, pressing environmental problems, and geopolitical conflicts—all major challenges on the agenda of the G20.

IIASA conducts its research in collaboration with large international research networks in its member countries, twelve of which are from the G20: Brazil, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Russian Federation, South Africa, South Korea, United Kingdom, and the United States.
